10 Ways To Sell Vacation Rentals

Selling vacation rentals will put extra money in your pocket for taking a vacation of your own or anything you like. It is a practical idea for anyone with plans in the future to further your education, retire at a decent age, or make an investment.

  1. List in your local newspaper. This is the easiest way to find someone who lives near you who might be interested in a vacation rental. There really are people near you who want to spend their vacation in your home. They might be having a lot of family over from afar who need a place to stay. Newspaper ads are affordable and reach a lot of people who might be a good target for selling vacation rentals.
  2. Have an open house. Some vacationers will be able to travel to your vacation home to have a look at the house. If you have any interested buyers be sure to let the m know that they are always welcome to take a look.
  3. Get featured in a magazine. If you have a very well decorated house, you might be able to be featured in a decorator’s magazine. This is especially true for houses with vintage furniture or interested architecture, or those that have been upgraded recently. Enter contests that will feature your house for interested potential tenants.
  4. Make a website. It is often not enough to put a few pictures and a short description on a website. If you make your own website, you will have room to take a picture of every room in the house and describe all of the best features.
  5. Offer a virtual tour. Make a video featuring all of the rooms of the house. Be sure to feature the backyard, front yard, and any interesting sites in the surrounding area.
  6. List on a local classifieds site. A website such as Craigslist will list a few other rental homes near you. However you are likely to not have too much competition. Buyers will look to these sites to find a rental home in the places they plan to visit. You will also be able to check out the other rental homes available near you to get an idea of the best price.
  7. Find tourists this season who will be interested in renting next season. If there are a lot of tourists near you, try meeting a few. You could make a few friends and find someone who would love to have a different place to stay next time they visit.
  8. Post a sign at a local bulletin board. Universities are a great place to do this. However if you rent to a bunch of college students on spring break, be wary of the excessive damage that could result. Libraries are also a good place to put up a sign.
  9. Ask around. Chances are, someone in your family knows someone who needs a place to stay over the summer or winter season. You might be able to find someone who will rent from you every year this way.
  10. Get business cards and leave them near local restaurants that are frequented by tourists. They will be in the area so they could contact you before they leave at the end of the season.
